Your Dermal Filler Options

For many people, plastic surgery is too drastic a step for their early signs of aging. If you find yourself looking in the mirror and thinking you could use a little help to look younger and more refreshed, dermal fillers may be just the “pick-me-up” you are looking for. These injectable fillers also can be used to compliment results of surgical procedures, such as eyelid surgery.

Dr. Nancy Chung offers non-animal derived dermal fillers, which require no allergy testing and have been used effectively for hundreds of thousands of patients nationwide. Dr. Chung uses dermal fillers to help her patients achieve results that are both immediate and long lasting, yet natural looking.

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel

JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler produced by the makers of BOTOX® Cosmetic. JUVÉDERM® is a smooth consistency gel used for adding volume to folds or wrinkles, particularly “smile lines” – the deep nasolabial folds which frame the corners of the mouth. JUVÉDERM® is injected into the deeper layers of the skin beneath the fold or crease, instantly adding volume and filling in lines. Results typically last around 6 to 9 months, but regular treatments may produce longer-lasting results over time.

Restylane®

Restylane® is a very popular injectable dermal filler, used frequently for lip augmentation and to smooth out wrinkles and scars. Restylane® is composed of synthetic hyaluronic acid – a substance that occurs naturally in the human body. Hyaluronic acid imparts elasticity, suppleness, and moisture to the skin. This synthetic version is completely biocompatible and biodegradable, which means that it will not harm the body, and will be safely eliminated by the body over time.

Restylane is injected directly into the treatment area through an ultra fine needle. The filler instantly adds volume to the desired area, creating results you can see immediately. The entire treatment takes approximately 15 minutes, with results that last approximately 6 months or more.

Perlane®

Perlane® is produced by the manufacturers of Restylane®, and is a remarkably similar product. It is also a synthetic hyaluronic acid tissue filler, but is composed of larger particles of hyaluronic acid. Because of its higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, results from Perlane® typically last from 6 to 12 months. Perlane® may be better suited for larger folds or indentations (such as acne scars), and for injection into the deeper layers of tissue, as well for patients seeking large volume lip enhancement.

Lip enhancement can be tailored to meet your desired outcome, whether you seek increased lip definition, lip volume, central pout or lip lengthening. It is far more involved than just “filling” your lips, and if these subtleties are not appreciated, you are more likely than not to end up with “duck lips.”

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is an injectable filler agent composed of microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite in an aqueous gel. As calcium is a natural substance found in human body, allergic reactions associated with this filler are extremely rare. Due to its cream-like consistency, the result is smoother and more natural than many of the other fillers. Furthermore, Radiesse® lasts longer than most non-permanent fillers, often lasting greater than a year, requiring less frequent treatments.

Radiesse® works well to restore lost volume and/or to fill-in deeper lines/wrinkles. Due to its natural consistency and effectiveness in volume enhancement, its use is extended to augment mid-face, nose, depressed scarred regions, in addition to the treatment of nasolabial folds and other “smile lines.”

Latisse®

LATISSE® solution is an effective prescription treatment for hypotrichosis (inadequate or reduction of normal hair pattern) used to grow eyelashes. When properly used, it can result in a dramatic improvement of the upper eyelashes by making them longer, thicker and darker.
